The getaway.

It was a dream come true...
Richie and I got to take a trip by OURSELVES at the end of June to St. Martin. My saint of a mother watched our kids for 6 whole days so we could celebrate Richie turning 30 a little early. We would like to of course thank my mom for making all of this possible, and a shout out to GEICO, who wrote us a nice check for a fender bender that Richie was in (not his fault), more than enough to pay for some minor repairs and our trip. I think we can say we hit the jackpot on that one :)

We bought our tickets 2 weeks before we went. We could not decide where we wanted to go. The Caribbean had always been a dream of mine since I had never been there. This is the beach by our hotel. And no, I'm not a midget, even though I look like one in this picture.

Ahhh, the water was so clear and blue. And warm of course.

Half of St. Martin is French, the other half is Dutch (they spell it St. Maarten). And the food was spectacular. Those French people really do know how to cook.

We drove to a different beach every day (sometimes 2 a day) in our toy car (some miniature, beat up Hyundai). These cows were spotted on the drive to one of the beaches. When I saw them I told Richie to turn around because we were obviously lost. Nope, just a few hundred feet ahead was the beach. I love how you can find everything on this island!

We slept for at least 8 hours straight every night. We missed our kids like crazy. We spent $40 for a 3 minute phone conversation. We used a map to find our way (the paper kind!). We snorkeled (well Richie did, I tried). We ate like it was going out of style. We felt like newlyweds again.
And we planned (in our heads of course) for our next Caribbean vacation. And decided we will bring the kids next time :)
