As I type this, my hubby is setting up bunk beds, there are dishes in the sink waiting to be washed, and there are piles of laundry that need to be folded. But instead I forced myself to blog, because today I once again learned that time does not stand still. I wanted to document Isaac's first day of school before I forgot (which happens way too often nowadays.) So the chores will wait because there will never be another first day of Kindergarten (well, let's hope not :)
I have been anxiously awaiting this day all summer. Isaac went to preschool last year, and since our town does half day kinder, he would be gone almost the same amount of time. But I think I was more nervous about today because it marks the beginning of many things. My boy is growing up. From now on, he will ALWAYS be in school. That is the craziest part of it all. I knew he was ready for today and he made sure to tell me. On our way home from church on Sunday, I asked him if he was nervous about starting Kindergarten at all. His response was, "What are you kidding me Mom?!?"
I set about 3 alarms for me this morning because I have been having nightmares all week about being late. My kids have been waking up at 6:30 am every day for the past few weeks and miraculously slept in til 8 am yesterday, so I wondered what today would bring. Of course, I had to wake them up this morning! But we ate breakfast and got ready. And after lots of pictures we finally made it to school. And he was SO EXCITED!
Some tears were shed (by Abby and me of course). But my boy didn't turn back. And at 11:45am I picked him up. And after digging for details about his first day, he told me the following:
-His teacher is pregnant with with a baby girl; she will be named Aubrey
-There was a boy who was really, really bad today
-He told his teacher that his first name is Richard but he likes to be called by his middle name, Isaac
-He wants to ride the bus tomorrow
-He wants me to give him money so he can buy milk at school. I asked him how much it cost. His reply: "Uh, I don't know. Just give me ten bucks." He cracks me up. I'm guessing he wants to buy milk for the whole school :)
